Dr. Jeoffrey Benson

Dr. Benson has practiced interventional pain management in association with the Anesthesia Medical Group of Santa Barbara since 1991. In 2003, he opened his private practice in pain management. He is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management specialties. He sees consults and performs procedures in his office and at Premier Surgery Center in Santa Barbara.

In addition to traditional pain management techniques, Dr. Benson is also a licensed acupuncturist and uses acupuncture as a alternative treatment for pain management.

Dr. Benson received his medical degree from the University of California San Francisco and acupuncture degree from the University of California Los Angeles. He completed both his residency in anesthesia and fellowship training in pain management at the University of California San Francisco. He is a member of various professional societies including the California Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and International Association for Study of Pain.

Dr. Daniel Craviotto

Dr. Craviotto is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement, and sports medicine. He received his medical degree from Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Craviotto completed an orthopedic internship and residency at the University of Texas in San Antonio, Texas. He also completed a fellowship at the University of Texas in sports medicine and total joint replacement.

Dr. Craviotto currently serves as the Chair of the Surgical Services Department at Goleta Valley Hospital and as an Orthopedic Surgeon Representative for the Total Joint Certification Program. He also serves as a diplomat for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Craviotto is on staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, and Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. He performs many of his surgeries at Premier Surgery Center.

Dr. Sean Early

Sean D. Early, MD earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Arizona and his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. His Orthopedic surgery residency was at the University of Southern California and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Early completed his pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the University of California San Diego and Children’s Hospital San Diego. Prior to relocating to the Central Coast he was in practice at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for 3 years.

Dr. Early is married and has 2 daughters and a son.  They enjoy a number of outdoor activities as a family including tennis, running, softball, lacrosse, basketball, soccer, snowboarding, and skiing.

Dr. Early’s areas of special interest include scoliosis and other spinal deformity, child and adolescent sports injuries, hip dysplasia, neuromuscular disease, pediatric trauma, and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Kimberly Grafton

Dr. Grafton is a board certified general surgeon specializing in surgical treatment of breast cancer and other diseases of the breast. She also treats malignant melanoma and is a trusted surgeon in the Santa Barbara area.

Dr. Grafton received her medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California. She completed a surgery internship at LAC/USC Medical Center and a residency in general surgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Grafton is also certified in Image-Guided Breast Biopsies.

Dr. Steven Hollstien

Dr. Hollstien is a board certified orthopedic surgeon, specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Hollstien currently currently serves as Co-Chairman of Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital and Chairman of the Surgery Department at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital. He performs many of his surgeries at Premier Surgery Center.

Dr. Hollstien received his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University and his medical degree from the University of California Davis School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Arizona and a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Washington University.

Dr. Graham Hurvitz

Graham R. Hurvitz,M.D. is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of arthritis conditions of the knee, hip and shoulder. Dr. Hurvitz also has extensive experience in the treatment of fractures, foot and ankle disorders, and sports injuries.

Dr. Hurvitz completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of California at San Diego. He earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University in 1997 and completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Los Angeles County and University of Southern California in 2002. He is published in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Hurvitz joined Dr. Ryu in practice in 2002. As a founding member of the Ryu Hurvitz Orthopedic Clinic, Dr. Hurvitz is committed to providing sound, compassionate and technologically advanced care to his patients.

In addition to his practice, Dr. Hurvitz is proud to serve as team physician for varsity athletic programs including U.C. Santa Barbara, Westmont College, Santa Barbara High School, Bishop High School and Cate. Dr.Hurvitz also serves on the Board of the Santa Barbara County Medical Society. He is medical director of Summit and Premier Surgery Centers in Santa Barbara.

Dr. Michael Maguire

Michael F. Maguire, MD completed his undergraduate degree at Creighton University and attended the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. He then completed his Orthopedic surgery training at the University of California, San Diego and Children’s Hospital San Diego. Dr. Maguire completed his pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the University of Utah Primary Children’s Medical Center, and the Shriner’s Hospital, Salt Lake City. He is married with three daughters and has been in practice in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties for over 16 years. Dr. Maguire’s areas of special interest include hip dysplasia, scoliosis, clubfoot, limb lengthening, neuromuscular disease, and pediatric trauma.

Dr. Steven Pearson

Dr. Pearson has worked in Santa Barbara County since 1988. As a board-certified surgeon, he specializes in foot and ankle orthopedic care.

Prior to opening his own private practice in Santa Barbara, California, Dr. Pearson attended Ursinus College for his undergraduate studies and Thomas Jefferson University for his medical degree. He completed a residency at Akron General Medical Center and a fellowship in foot and ankle care at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Pearson is a member of many medical societies including the California Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a Consultant for the Californian Children’s Services.

Dr. Dennis Phelps

Dr. Phelps is a graduate of the University of Michigan and University of Michigan Medical School. He completed an internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan followed with a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Phelps completed his fellowship in surgery of the hand at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Phelps also served in the United States Air Force where he was the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the USAF Hospital at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He is also the former President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Phelps is currently on staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute at Santa Barbara.

Dr. Richard Ryu

Dr. Ryu is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as in Sports Medicine. Dr. Ryu is the senior member of the Ryu Hurvitz Orthopedic Clinic and is one of the founding members and current Surgical Director for Summit and Premier Surgery Centers in Santa Barbara.

Dr. Ryu is a Past President of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and has served on its Board of Directors in addition to his appointments as Chairman of the Education Committee, the Ethics and Standards Committee, the Nominating Committee and the Program Committee. Dr. Ryu was designated a Master Shoulder Surgeon in 1997, and continues to teach complex shoulder surgery to other orthopedic surgeons who visit the Orthopedic Learning Center in Chicago. Dr. Ryu recently completed a 6 year term as a California delegate to the Council of Delegates for the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and has been a Visiting Professor or Guest Lecturer at the Mayo Clinic, Yale University, UC San Francisco, Tulane University, UCLA, UC Irvine, Temple and UC San Diego.

Dr. Ryu has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals and sits on the Editorial Board of the Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review journal. He has also served as a guest editor for the Journal of Arthroscopy and for Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine. He recently completed work as the series editor and shoulder volume co-editor for a 5 volume series entitled “AANA Advanced Arthroscopy Textbooks”. Dr. Ryu has delivered over 200 scientific arthroscopy lectures nationally and internationally, including recent visits to Beijing, Seoul, Osaka, Rome, Cancun and Buenos Aires.

Dr. Ryu graduated cum laude from Yale University with a degree in Biological Sciences, and then attended UCSF medical school where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honors Society. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF, and then spent his fellowship year with additional training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

Dr. Ryu began his private practice in Santa Barbara in 1986, and has been serving as the team physician for UCSB , Westmont College, The Santa Barbara Foresters, Santa Barbara High School, Bishop Diego and the Cate School. He has served on the board for numerous local non-profit organizations and has been a Foundation Trustee for UCSB since 1996.

Dr. Victor Tacconelli

Dr. Tacconelli is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He received his medical degree from Hahneman Medical College is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed a surgery internship at LAC-USC Medical Center. Following his internship, Dr. Tacconelli served in the United States Navy for two years. He then completed his residency at the Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles and a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic.

Dr. Tacconelli is a member the California Medical Association and the Santa Barbara County Medical Society. He has served as Team Physician for Santa Barbara City College and Orthopedic Consultant for the University of California Santa Barbara. Dr. Tracconelli currently is on staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Goleta Valley Hospital, and Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. However, he performs manyof his surgeries at Premier Surgery Center.

Dr. David Scott Thoman

Dr. Thoman is a board certified in general surgery. He specializes in minimally invasive and laparoscopic gastrointestinal and weight loss options. His procedures leave his patients with smaller scars, faster healing, and less pain compared to traditional “open” procedures. Dr. Thoman is the first surgeon on the Central Cost to offer several procedures using the single-incision method.

Dr. Thoman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, in Notre Dame, Indiana and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a general surgery internship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California and a four year residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Thoman completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Thoman also served in the United States Navy where he completed Officer Indoctrination School, Combat Casualty Care Course, Field Medical Service School, Navy Trauma Refresher Course for Surgeons, Naval Officer Intermediate Leadership Course, and served at the Navy Trauma Training Center.

Dr. Thoman currently serves at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital as Chairman for the Department of Surgery, Medical Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and Associate Director of Surgical Education.

Dr. Jervis Yau

Dr. Yau is an orthopedic surgeon with sub-specialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine. Dr. Yau has experience caring for athletes of all ages and focuses on restoring maximal function through both non-operative and operative management. Dr. Yau has particular interest in joint preservation through minimally invasive surgical techniques of the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow and ankle. He has additional training in cartilage restoration techniques including autologous chondrocyte implantation (Genzyme). Dr. Yau is also proficient in orthopedic trauma and fracture care.

Dr. Yau graduated cum laude from UC San Diego with a degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience. He then attended New York Medical College, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Yau completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by additional fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Medicine Associates in Redwood City, CA.

Dr. Yau has team coverage experience at the collegiate and professional levels including the San Francisco Giants. He is proud to serve as the team physician for UC Santa Barbara, Westmont College, Santa Barbara High, Bishop Diego and the Cate School.

Dr. James Zmolek

Dr. Zmolek is a board certified orthopedic surgeon in Santa Barbara. He attended medical school at UCLA School of Medicine followed with a residency at the University of Southern California School of Medicine Los Angeles County Hospital. Dr. Zmolek completed a fellowship in Surgical Arthritis and Reconstruction at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center.

Dr. Zmolek is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, California Medical Association, Santa Barbara County Medical Society, USC Orthopedic Society and Notre Dame Orthopedic Society.

He was recognized by Castle Connolly as one of the nation’s Top Doctor’s in 2013.
